This is the first step of the process of putting together your songs. We lay down your tracks with each instrument. In order to get this part down in a timely fashion, it is suggested you rehearse each song until you can perform it forward and backward. But seriously, the better prepared each musician is with his or her part, the smoother things will go during the recording process. There is still some creativity and writing going on during this process, but it is better to be prepared for recording in the studio before coming in.
Some tips for first-timers is to play to a click track or a metronome. Most songs we record are done to a click track and very rarely we don't. The more in-sync the group is, the better the recordings will sound.
This is the process after all the tracks are laid down and recorded where we begin to make each song come together with audio processing such as, equalization, compression, panning, automation, etc.
This is where the creativity of the engineer comes about and can also be done during the recording process. Whatever is not done during recording can and will be done afterward. It is recommended the artists and/or producer be present for this part of the creative process in order to give input as to what type of sound is desired for the final outcome.
This process is the final part of mixing. We make sure each song is as loud as the other while trying to make it as loud as commercially released songs from popular artists and bands.
This part is usually outsourced to a mastering engineer in another studio in order to get a different perspective and input on the sound overall. It is usually an well-experienced engineer with many years of music production.
However, the price of this part of the process is set by the mastering engineer which is usually more than we charge at Despo Studios. If the artist requests the mastering also be done here, then we can accommodate those needs here. We charge only $30/hr because we have less experience at mastering than other engineers in the area, but we aspire to produce the best quality we can with the tools we have.
We can accommodate the studio for recording episodes of podcasts. Come into the studio, sit and talk about your favorite topics while it all gets recorded. We are equipped with lighting as well, just bring your camera with you. Editing and mixing for podcasts is also $25/hr.
Add Sound FX and Foley to your video project. We can make your video sound the way it should.
